The Quiet Ways God gets our Attention

curiosity faith gifts high performance leadership mindset Mar 31, 2026

Some weeks, life gets loud and my mind gets even louder.
And this week, I was reminded of something I tend to forget when I’m juggling too much at once:
God cares about what we care about. And when I pay attention, I can actually hear Him.

This week was full. I wasn’t sure how I was going to get everything done. And right in the middle of that swirl, I heard something during Pastor Rick’s podcast that felt like it was meant for me. The episode wasn’t even about what I was wrestling with — but the message still landed. That’s how it works sometimes. The right words show up at the right moment.
Pastor Rick shared something he and his wife do:
Whenever one of them has an idea, they commit to liking it for five seconds.
Just five seconds of openness.
Five seconds of curiosity.
And that’s where the leadership message clicked for me.
Because let’s be honest — how many times has a team member, co‑worker, or leader brought us a new idea at the exact moment we felt locked into our plan?
An idea that interrupts our thoughts.
An idea that shows up at the “wrong” time.
Too many times to count.
And most of the time, our first reaction is to tighten up, get irritated, or mentally push it aside because it wasn’t part of the plan.
But what would happen if we paused and decided to like the idea for five seconds?
What if we let curiosity have a chance?
Curiosity changes everything.
When we pause long enough to “like it for five seconds,” we shift from
“I don’t have time for this”
to
“Is there something here I’m supposed to see?”
It reframes the moment.
It softens our posture.
It opens the door to possibility.
And honestly, it turns interruptions into something else entirely: Gifts.
So for me, the two messages came together like this:
God speaks — even in the small things.
And curiosity helps us receive the gifts hidden inside interruptions.
I’d love to hear from you —
What’s something unexpected that ended up being a gift once you slowed down enough to notice it?
