Shine Like the Sunset
Jun 10, 2026
What if the dust in your day is the very thing that makes your light more brilliant?
“Sunset!”
This is a nightly declaration at our house. We’re always excited to see what the setting sun has in store for us. I’m know we’re not alone - watching the sunset is a popular ritual. Sharing that moment each day is bonding, romantic, grounding… and always different.
It’s interesting what actually makes sunsets brilliant.
As the sun heats the day, the warming earth releases dust particles into the air. Those particles ride the air currents upward. When the sun begins to set and the angle of light shifts, the light refracts differently off the dust than it does off normal air particles. That’s what creates the brilliant reds and pinks we love.
This phenomenon is called Mie scattering.
Sunlight bouncing off dirt creates something breathtaking.
Wow.
It makes me wonder… shouldn’t we try to be more like the sun?
Creating our own version of Mie?
Think about it.
Each of us was given a special light to share with the world.
And as we move through our days, we gather dust - not the kind in the atmosphere, but the kind that comes from grumpy coworkers, kids with strong opinions, unexpected problems, and moments that feel too heavy.
But what if we chose to reflect the dust instead of absorbing it?
What if our light became more brilliant because of the challenges in our day - not in spite of them?
No two sunsets are ever the same.
None of our days are the same.
And each of us was created to shine in our own way.
Imagine how beautiful life could be if we made this choice — to glow brighter every time an obstacle drifted into our path.
How would it change the way you lead? The way you love?
How would it change the way you face the day?
Just by being a little more… Mie.
I believe your presence has the power to change the atmosphere — the same way the sun changes the sky.
I’m choosing one moment today where I’ll reflect instead of react. How can you let your light set the tone today?
